Can anyone help identify this diode? See attached photo.

I tried looking through the SMD code book with no luck.

Looks to be a Motorola?

The dimensions are Length= 4.3mm Width= 3.4mm

it is motorola, package seem to be 403A (SMB), possibly 1N5946 (3W zener 75V)

Can't seem to find in the SMB package style.

Something to note. The diode is shorted across pins 1 and 2 (input and ground) of a 7805 voltage regulator. Which the input of the VR has a max voltage rating of 18V. I originally thought the VR was bad but after removing from the circuit, it tested good and the short remained on the board.

 

that was just one of possibilities. could be as good as any since not much more was shown.

btw 1N5946 is a generic part number made by many manufacturers. one of motorola parts in such package was 1SMB5946BT3.

Interesting problem, a "short" on the input side to a regulator. It might even be that diode, put in as protection.So tracing the up-stream circuit to see what else could have failed and be the short.
