Identification of Surface Mount Diode

I am finding it very difficult to fully identify a failed surface mount component (see attached images). It is clear that the manufacturer is Diodes Incorporated. It is likely that "212" refers to the year/week of manufacture. The component is clearly some sort of diode and is connected across the rails of the DC supply (12V, 3A) to the board. My guess is that the diode is some sort of TVS. However, I have not been able to find it on Diodes Inc website or anywhere else. Would appreciate any help and/or suggestions. Many thanks.

After many hours searching, I have finally found the device. It seems strange to me that if you have the part number you can easily find the marking codes. However, if all you have is the marking code, it is extremely difficult to identify the device. In my case, after some reverse engineering, I was able to guess that the device was a TVS diode which helped narrow the search. But without that information I would have been at a complete loss :-(
