IC packages indications

Hello,

I don't think there ia a direct relation between the numbers and package size.
The wiki has a large page about the SOT packages:

Oh I see sir. And my first stop was at Wikipedia only.
I started to wonder what was the reason for these numbers like SOT 323, SOT 353 and so on?

What does those numbers indicate about the IC?

Unfortunately, those numbers only specify the package so you can look up the dimensions and lay out a PC board, they don't indicate anything about what is actually inside. A SOT-23 package can contain many different kinds of transistors, diodes, temperature sensors or complete microcontrollers (see PIC10F200). There is sometimes coding on the package to tell what's inside but that varies.
