Hi everyone, I'm new both to this forum as well as in the Integrated Circuit design industry. I've recently joined an IC design company as a key accounts manager. The first task I've been assigned is to do a business analysis study on the IC design industry in Asia and write a report on it. I'm struggling with this task because I have never done a business analysis study before but more importantly, I'm struggling the right information to conduct this study. Please, can anyone here help or guide me, any help is greatly appreciated. Especially if its information about the IC design industry in Asia. Thanks

Step 1 might be to identify the players(companies). If the information is available you could determine their annual revenue and profitability.
Step 2 might be to identify the customers
Step 3 might look at obstacles to conducting business in Asia. Language, banking, money flow, and transportation

That should keep you busy for a while.

That you have to ask this question of random strangers indicates a failure of management at your company. If they can't define their requirements, how will you know what 'done' means. In other words how will you know that you are finished? An open ended task like this is like saying to you go off to a corner, look busy, and don't bother us.

Hi,
Can you elaborate what you mean by IC design. Is it integrated logic design or circuit of what...

I work in Intel Manufacturing in Manila. Doing such memories and processor from Wafer (die) to ICS (with frame and bonding lead).

Thanks for the reply and the info. I wouldn't put it so much as a failure of management but more along the lines of insufficient authoritative personal in the company. I'm joining the company as a key accounts manager as I mentioned before and now the sales team consist of me and one other individual. So it's difficult to work on an open ended task like this but it also helps me better understand the industry and perform better as a key accounts manager without any help or guidance cause I expect that there will be none. I really appreciate the help

If a business as small as yours is looking to do an in-house market study to find out where they fit in the industry amungst their hundreds of competitors, then your management is stupid. They should get your boots pounding the pavement looking for customers and SELLING your services. As you sell, ask your customers questions about their needs, the market they serve, your competitors, and so on. Don't waste a minute trying to do your market report any other way - sell and build relationships with your customers.

Whether or not your boss understands it, your goal is to sell 3x your salary (at the very minimum) - hopefully 10x or more And grow in your second year. Nothing else is important if you are an account manager (glorified sales person title).

Thanks for the advice, I fully understand I'm only a glorified salesman. Unfortunately, since I'm new to the industry and there is no one to help or guide me aside from introducing me to the existing clients, it is necessary for me to do this study and get a basic grasp on the industry so I can operate on my own.
