My laptop just came up with a request for me to buy an extended warranty but is it really necessary given the apparent expected warranty of this PC?

An obvious mistake. Any PC that lasts for the entire warranty period is usually obsolete and not worth repairing.

I had a $2500 Lenovo Yoga 13 that died after a couple of years. It was given to me by my company for some milestone, so I didn't bother throwing money at it. My 10 year old HP laptop is still working; aside from the fact that the battery no longer holds a charge. Since it's so old, replacement batteries are cheap when you can find them.

I have a more than 25 year old Compaq laptop that runs WinME so I can use some parallel port devices.
