Hurricane's a-comin!
Not for me. What I call the, "Hurricane Gun" is a westward path that includes Cuba, give or take about 100 miles. Hurricanes that eat Cuba turn north and threaten me on the west coast of Florida when they hook back to the east. If it can't get in the Gulf of Mexico, it can't hurt me. Any other path wrecks the energy so much that it's merely a long few days of rain when it gets to me.

I blame Global Warming for this lack of hurricanes threatening me since Katrina in 2005. :p

ps, That is not what Pittsburgh looked like when I was there!!!

Looks iffy that it'll hit Boston. Been a while since we got a hurricane, it seems.
We got a tropical storm there a couple of years ago, think it was originally supposed to be a hurricane but was downgraded right before it hit. I just remember a lot of wind and rain.

Remember the "big blizzard" there a few winters ago (I believe this would have been the Winter of 2012/2013)? The entire city was shut down for a foot of snow. Here in VT I've driven to work during an ice storm with 3-4 feet of snow on the ground :p

We have a bright object in the sky this morning. Finally. We were very fortunate. Just minor damage and not near the rain that was expected.

It gets worse the farther south you go. In N.C. some rivers are still rising and of course S.C.

They were calling it a thousand year event here with those first forecasts.

They had just completed a multiyear flood control project here. It was a big project.

This was gonna test it. But thankfully we didn’t come close. We had some greenway flooding, but they are designed to do so.

Those gauges are handy. They are on most lakes, reservoirs, rivers and a lot of streams.

Hardly got anything here, though we're supposed to pick up quite a bit of rain this week. Ended up not climbing Mt. Cardigan last Saturday as my fiancee and I had planned--Much too cold for our taste (it was ~40F at the base, so summit could be 20F lower). Ended up hiking a trail up a small mountain near our home instead, got some beautiful views (remind me to post some pictures in the Picture This thread). I believe peak foliage is this week. It's gorgeous up here in VT (other than the temps).

You guys in the southern states can expect 'incoming' in the next month or so.
The Geese in from further north have been gathering on the river behind me keeping me up all night partying, :( using it as temporary base, several formations have left already.

This is not quite a non-sequitur, but close.

A couple of weeks ago, I went to Lynchburg, TN to tour the town's largest and most famous company. The tour was free and very interesting; one thing I did not know about JD was that they make all their own charcoal for use in the filtering process. Maple wood is burned in the open, and sprayed with water to control the burn, and they make lots of charcoal this way. On the way out of town, I noticed all the road signs were covered in soot. I suppose the Lynchburg residents consider the source and say, "It looks like money."
I live about 40 miles north of there, I placed a graduate student there about 8 years ago.He said there was a lot of PLC "stuff" going on in the background and between buildings. They have an annual Chili Cook off there that's great.

Q: What do you call a Western Pennsylvania day where the sky is filled with a few white puffy clouds, mostly bright blue sky, no wind, 68 - 72F, low humidity?

A: A weekday.

I'm having a hard time sitting in the office today.
