Are you talking about train? or are the highways going to be safe enough?
I've got my pick and shovel ready to tunnel out... :D

Just kidding. I am 5 minutes away from 5 major highways going north, south, and west. I can be 50 miles away in 40 minutes, if necessary.

@#12 doesn't have this luxury. He is 10 to 20 miles from the closest major interstate (I-275) -- to which he'd have to travel some of the worst congested surface roads in Florida.

Based upon the current track:

and wind field:

I will see at most 60mph winds at my location. Most of the strongest wind will be from north to south, which is good for me.

Unfortunately, if the storm wobbles a bit to the west, all bets are off.

Any time you can see a well defined eye like this, you know that the storm is a monster. It is close enough now to be picked up by local radar sites. Storm shutters are up, pantry is well stocked with canned goods and water jugs are full. My mother lives in Oklahoma City and is very familiar with tornadoes. She wanted to know what a hurricane was like. I told her it was like a tornado that covered the entire state.

Monster only in the sense of very localized high-speed winds around a small core.

Wilma, for instance, was huge and slow. Lot's of damage, likely more than Matthew will produce, I hope.

Wilma made landfall. The eye went directly over my house. It was moving about 27 MPH at the time. The back side of the storm was way worse than the leading edge for me due to the forward speed. My first Florida hurricane was Elena in 1985 (I lived in Tampa at the top of Tampa Bay). We had hurricane strength winds hitting our house for a full 24 hours.

Went through Epcot Center a couple of days after Andrew went through. We could park right near the gate and encountered no crowds and short lines throughout the day. Could not have turned out better if it were planned that way.

Looks like a pretty big storm surge. Are you on a waterway?

I just received the inevitable phone call from the family, wanting to know if I'm going to die.
If I needed to be gone, I would be. Hwy. 275 is 5 miles East, and Kentucky is 12 hours away.
I'm just glad it's cloudy today. Mowing the lawn will be easier without direct sun on my shoulders.
These drenching sweats get tiresome in Florida, but winter is just around the corner.;)
In a day or two, the humidity will drop like a rock, and I will enjoy it.:)

Yay! Sneaked in a lawn mow between showers.:p

@joeyd999

It was a youtube video of Rare Earth's Get Ready ... filled with women and a couple of objectional pictures, I think it was the same one twice. .... I posted it for the music content, but I knew you'd enjoy the pictures. If I were Japanese, I would feel insulted by the take down, hell, if it were a Japanese produced video it probably would be objectionable ... in Sweden. :)

The storm is about directly east of where I am right now. I took a chance with my life and stepped into the backyard. The winds are ferocious, at about 5 to 7 mph.
