That second photo is spectacular!
(Global warming sure does strange things!)

Meanwhile, it's just raining at about 60 F today. Boring.:(
#12... just to clarify, I liked your post because you liked the second pic... not because it was raining on your butt... :D

@cmartinez can I use that second photo to make a puzzle?

It's an electronic puzzle program and if you want a copy of your picture as a puzzle, let me know how many pieces in the puzzle.

If one wanted to live in a house on the hill, what would it cost? How long does it take to get downtown? Is it a safe area to live? Are gringos welcome?

I know...it depends, but I am the curious type and I like to play "what if"
Most gringos love it here... in fact, you could say that Monterrey is the most americanized city in Mexico. It's only 2 hours away from the Texas border, and most of us like to go spend the weekend in South Padre Island every time we can. Most of us speak passable english and very much enjoy talking and socializing with foreigners. And yes, it's the safest place to live in Mexico right now.

There's lots of industry that requires the presence of foreigners, which are mainly american and canadian, and some europeans. But a Kia automobile assembly plant has just opened and now you can find Koreans everywhere!

As for living up in the mountains... it's quite expensive to live there. The cost of land is exorbitant, and transporting materials and workers up there to build your house is very costly. You could find a far better deal at the foot of the mountains.

San Pedro (the suburb where I live) is considered by most to be among the three best top places in Mexico for quality of life, if not the first. Unfortunately, it's also the most expensive... believe it or not, there are some patches of land in this place whose cost could be compared to Hong Kong's or Manhattan's! But then again, you could find much better deals, if you knew where to look for them.
Keep in mind, though, that this place is an industrial city. If you're considering retirement, or simply going into a vacation to a place that is not to the most commercial places (like Vallarta or Cancún) I'd suggest you take a look at Los Cabos or better yet, San Miguel de Allende.

There's a subtropical storm moving through the area and it's now warm and rainy.

How warm and rainy is it??? :p

It's so warm and rainy that the mosquitos are breeding in droves and biting like piranhas. o_O

67 deg F / 17C today. End of January and in Pittsburgh. Amazing. I was out on my bicycle today. Got rid of a lot of that cabin fever.

And we just had a snow storm here last weekend. We did not get hit too bad but just a 1.5 hour drive south east of here were my boss lives, they got hammered. They were still digging out as of last Wednesday.

Sunny and 71 F
Time to work outside.
My new/used car still smells like dog when it gets hot, so I'm going to take the carpeting completely out and clean it within an inch of its life.
If that doesn't get the odor out, I will just have to ride with my head out the window like the dog who stunk up the car.

Maybe if you were to sprinkle the carpeting with a bit of baking soda?

I once purchased used car that very soon I realized that a dog owner had it previously, However hard I tried, I never did get the smell out from the fabric upholstery. :(
Now I try to make sure first or go with leather, which I prefer.
Max.

Do you really think sprinkling baking soda on the carpet is better than:
Taking out all the seats and the carpeting,
washing every seat cover, foam cushion, and backrest with detergent,
dancing soap and water into the carpeting for an hour,
rinsing with soft water for an hour,
hanging the carpeting over the fence to drip,
placing everything in the sun to dry,
spraying a pint of Febreeze on the carpet and massaging it in with my fingers.
and scrubbing the bare metal floor?

If it is, I want my 9 days back!

AND then sprinkle baking soda on them... it can't hurt, you know

Seriously now, probably the most important part is drying the carpet thoroughly. Odors are usually anchored to moisture.... say, if what you're doing doesn't work the way you expect it to, have you considered dry cleaning?

Yeah, cat's don't smell.:p
I bought a house in 1972. It smelled of cat pee. I wore out a gallon of Clorox and an ex-marine trying to get rid of the smell.
I checked again about 3 months ago. The present owner of the house said it still smells of cat pee.
Nobody has been able to get rid of that smell in 44 years!
So, yeah, cats don't leave an odor.:D
