Mainly snow here last night but the roads are a slick mess near Portland. Took the teen out in the car to do donuts in the empty store parking lot so she could feel what losing control in a car is like. Great fun!
I never understood why they didn't teach this in driver's ed in high school. I taught my kids - by example mostly - that in dodgy conditions you should test the grip every once in a while. Exaggerate a turn, brake a little harder, that sort of thing. Sometimes you get a big surprise then you learn the road below you is a lot slipperier than you thought. I'd rather learn that on my own instead of sliding into the next intersection.

Jeremy told investigators he had gone up FS Road 40 on Sunday, but became stuck in the snow. He awoke Monday to even more snow and was unable to get his vehicle unstuck. Jeremy had attempted to walk out on Monday, but the deep snow made it very difficult and he and Allie returned to his vehicle. Jeremy stayed warm over the next four days by periodically starting his vehicle and used a few taco sauce packets he had as food.

Always travel with survival supplies in winter. A taco sauce snow cone must taste pretty good after a few days.

Why do these morons venture into the high country, on remote roads and don't take ample supplies and snow shoes? How many times do you hear about some idiot that gets stranded because their snow mobile died and they were unable to walk out.

All kind of warnings today for 6inches of snow. The hype has been building for days. End of the world type stuff. After snowing all day, this is what we have. That is my front walk and driveway. I have not cleared them yet today.

We have just had the warmest February on record. I just looked out of the window and we have a cover of snow courtesy of storm Freya - only about 1cm but still a bit of a shock after the February we have had.

It’s just dropped below zero here. Expecting-8F. Today I spread a 40lb bag of salt on my sidewalk and driveway, which have up to a foot of solid ice. It laughed at me.

"Hey! Look at that bunch of elk!"
"Not bunch, herd."
"Heard what?"
"Herd of elk."
"Sure I've heard of elk."
"Not heard of elk, an elk herd."
"What do I care if an elk heard? I didn't say anything I shouldn't have!"
My Ten year old granddaughter correcting my pronunciation "Neanderthal" Grandpa "Neandertals" weren't that tall.
