There are two separate toggle switches on this panel. One is for the step (which is just like what you described!!) This one is beyond that. I will go take several (more detailed) pictures!!

Well, in that case, look closely at the health of those wires, like how soft and pliable thy are vs crispy and crumbly. Most cars on the road older than 1995 have electrical issues becaus rather wires ( and especially the grounding strap to the frame) have oxidized or the insulation has crumbled somewhere and caused a short circuit. That is a car, the quality of wire is likely much better on a car than an RV. .
Also, get a new inverter (converts 12v DC to AC). New ones are much better than the inverter I bought in 2005. The current models must be way ahead of one from 1988.
