How to test a Radar detector

While this is a bunch of replies to an older post, I have a comment. I was given a good radar detector a while ago and installed it just to see what I could see. The result was frequent triggering and warnings, most with no police in sight. Triggering in parking lots and on empty streets and driving through factory zones. So what it is seeing is part of the "RF smog" that we have today as the ambient level of radiation has increased a whole lot. Every single one of those wireless devices radiates at some frequency when it is working, and many of them are working constantly. So there is no need to speed, just plug it in and drive and notice that it detects a whole lot of things.

The older models were sensitive to automatic door openers and would go off every time I went by the grocery stores. Now with their laser speed detectors, they have become pretty much useless. Haven't used one in over at least 20 years or so.
