This heat zink doesnt have a thread for a screw.

How do they mount them on the mosfet?

If it’s a TO220 case style I would mount it behind the “black back part” on the tab, but personally when heat sinking a TO220 I always use the type designed for that case style.

Those heat sinks are designed to be mounted on top of integrated circuits, not on MOSFETs or other semiconductor devices in TO-220 (or similar) packages.

Use nylon screws and matching nuts to mount them. You can find these at ali-express, newark, etc.

I don't think nylon screws for attaching to a heatsink would be a good idea. You need to be able to apply plenty of pressure between the component and the heatsink which you can't do with a nylon screw. If you need insulation then use an insulating kit designed for the job with a metal screw.

Those are the whole kit except you should be able to get black anodized for the same price which is supposed to radiate the heat better. Also apparently now the silicone sheet is preferred over the grease. Be careful with the mounting screw pressure to ensure it sits flat and in full contact on the heatsink.

Actually, the ones I prefer have a mounting pin to help with orientation and support, these don't.

 

The best mounting method is a spring clip pressing the body of the device against the heat sink. The benefit is that the force does not back off, and the metal part of the transistor does not bend. Read the application notes about heat sinking and mounting them. There is a whole lot of great information there.

 

I agree that the original tiny (half inch by half inch by 1/3 inch) heatsinks are too small to cool TO-220 case Mosfets.

I've seen these used for computer processors but not for TO-220 can you share a link, please? Sounds better than the screw mounts which can certainly work loose from heat cycling.
