A positive to negative switcher uses the back emf to generate a negative voltage - but it also has a slight similarity to a buck.

There's another book that may be useful:Ok, that is easy to find. I can see that buck and inverting buck-boost are kind of close, but it still is hard to imagine how to pull it of with that circuit. Especially when I have trouble imagining how the circuit actually gets to oscillate in the first place![]()
