Hello people....!
I want to ask this that in my project i have to generate an 8-bit BCD signal from an encoder,actually i have to convert a decimal,hex or an octal signal to a BCD signal from an encoder and i am not getting any IC which can do it....
So please if anyone can tell me that this is possible or not....
Do i have to cascade some priority encoder IC's to get it or there is any other way.....

Chances are that you mean binary instead of decimal signal. It makes no sense to "convert" a decimal signal into Binary Coded Decimal. The mystery encoder must have a binary output. I say mystery because there are more than one kind of encoder.

Octal and hexidecimal are simply binary that has been grouped into bytes. BCD is similar, but the 4 bit value never goes above 9. A bit of investigation will show how to do it. With an understanding of the process, this becomes quite simple.

 

As guide ,might try looking up the data sheet on a decade counter, such as MM74C90.
