Hi

I am interested in designing an electric switch which can control power supply in two modes. It will be like a normal electric switch which we use in our homes for turning on/off different lights, devices etc but it should be operational in manual mode (like normal switches in our homes) and it should also be able to control power supply through a chip. Please let me know if it is possible to do this or not? Also, please let me know if this is already done and from where can we find reference to it.

Let me understand this:

You want a switch which can be controlled electronically and mechanically?

One way this could be done is through a TRIAC. The mechanical switch would control the electronic signal to the TRIAC. I can only assume you are using AC but you have not given any indication either way. A TRIAC will not work on a DC circuit, you will not be able to turn it off once you turn it on without disconnecting it or the load.

I think in our homes power supply is AC, so, as per your suggestion, TRIAC should work fine. Is there any such practical implementation which I can refer?
