How to control a 12VDC latching solenoid from a standard 120V on/off wall switch

sghioto: With that system you're not using a momentary latch and momentary unlatch signals. If I recall, the TS wants an intermittent signal. Honestly I haven't been following this all that closely.
It is momentary. The relays RL2 and RL3 only stay activated briefly via the charge and discharge of the capacitor.

Been looking but can't find a latching solenoid. But lets get this escape in emergencies thing resolved. The fence is only 4 feet high and is climbable.
How about looking thru the threads about chicken coop door controls!! Open and close functions seem quite similar to the latch and unlatch motions of a gate lock. And that could certainly be an arrangement having a manual mode on the inside that was not accessable from the outside.
BUT, iif the intent is for security purpose, a simple remote release makes much more sense because every unlocking action would be intentional.

I'd like to know how he's going to get through the gate if it's locked and power has gone out. How's he going to get out in an emergency.
how do you get out of hotel room when fire is in the hallway, because windows don't open and even if they did, your room is on a high floor? such death traps are literally everywhere.
you may have to figure something out, call 911, perhaps break something, walk through the flames, or wait to be rescued.

as for private home gate, i am not concerned at all.
anyone experiencing emergency will have more room to move around yard, also there is always an option is to climb the fence - even if high.
finally if someone enters while the premisses are locked, and then experience emergency, i really see no problem - they should not be there in the first place...
i'd want them to have a "memorable experience"...

I already mentioned the cheap source of the solenoid, WAY BACK , which would be an automotoive power door lock solenoid from a scrap yard.(An auto-knackers yard in the UK) those devices had plenty of force and were quite rugged, and as they were so reliable they should still be in good working shape after many years.
AND, for unlatching during a power failure, OF COURSE there would be a manual release accessable only from inside.the fence. Even motorized security gates have that feature included.

I like your idea of an automotive power door lock solenoid. I'm going to start looking for my latching solenoid in that direction. It raining right now, but I will hit the junk yards soon

There are also motorized versions for automotive doorlock operation. They also could be useful, possibly. Also found in auto junkyards. It is raining here as well. Is the TS anywhere nere 48067?? oor 48073?
