How fair is it to blame the tech?

A good portion of the problems we face with the Internet today stem directly from the Utopian idealism of its creators, which was displayed by Berners-Lee's comments. The entire system was built upon a foundation of believing that everyone that would ever interact with it was as pure as the driven snow and would only use it to "make great things happen." Of course, this belief has no basis whatsoever in reality and, instead, is yet another example of people insisting that the world works they way they would like it to work instead of the way that it actually works. Not surprisingly, these people invariably end up, "disappointed with how some humans have chosen to use it." Gee, couldn't see that coming.

People absurdly blame completely inanimate object for having criminal intent all the time. Why should technology get a pass on harmful intent if people believe its causing harm?
