The project seems reasonably well explained.
What don't you understand?

 

Since the assignment is to design a simulation of a real elevator, perhaps one should examine the states that a real elevator can be in to better understand the assignment. The state of a real elevator is determined by its location, direction of motion (if any), and door status. Are physical time durations to be realistically incorporated into the simulation? Are there any unstated assumptions, e.g. can the elevator be in motion with the door open?
