Hello, I would like to ask for some suggestions on components to use for making a high voltage magnitizer.

however rather than a simple push button across that voltage I would like to find a solid state solution that I could have close and then open at a time interval that is adjustable.
so I can set it to energize for 0.5 sec, 1 sec, 2 sec, ect before pressing the button.

I was going to use the 240V welding outlet in my shop as the source.

I plan to make my own high voltage capacitors mostly following the steps that rimstar uses in this video.

any other suggestions on making high voltage capacitors is very much appreciated.

You want to magnetize with a pulsed coil, correct?
A Silicon Controlled Rectifier (SCR) would be a good candidate as a switch.

Note that the "high voltage capacitors" you intend to build will be useless, these have minute capacitance. (picofarads)
You need a large electrolytic capacitor rated for the voltage. (hundreds of microfarads)

Note that this project can kill you- be careful.
