Folks,

There are multiple rail splitters to be found on the web, but I have a hard time locating one which can deliver high current, say 5 amps. I like the idea of something based on regulators, such as the attached. Maybe the one with the transistors can be designed to handle high current? - any ideas?

 

I built a 60A 24V to 12V splitter for heavy trucks.
I would use a PWM and two MOSFETs. Run about 50% duty cycle. Adjust the duty cycle by looking at 1/2vin compared to vout.
At 5A and (what is your voltage) you will have too much heat, so use PWM.
I have to run to work now but this is not too hard.

That sounds like a 24V to 12V converter.
A rail-splitter must be able to conduct current in either direction.

We called it a battery balancer and it worked in either direction. Now that I think about it there are battery balancers for charging stacked batteries. The small ones are linear but the big ones are switched to keep the power loss down.

Don't know what voltage. Took a LTC3623 and made a rail splitter good for +/-5A. Rload and Rload2 show it can pull up or down. R1/R2 makes the 1/2 voltage reference. Vin 4 to 15V.
