Hello! I need help connecting capacitor to a fan. Recently a fan from kmart just decided to die..I am looking how to connect the new capacitor.

The fan used to have a capacitor connection but the connection went of (long story short)
I have now 3 wires red, black,brown If i pass current through the red and black the fan struggles and I have to push it for it to start. If I put the capacitor in series with the red and black will the capacito do its job?

 

Did you check continuity between brown & red, or brown & black? Just speculation- black- cap- brown. Need your findings.

The tester found continuity between black brown and red brown

 

A fan with cap generally has two identical windings, if the resistance measures the same, one common and two windings, then either can be used with a cap in series, if it runs the wrong way, swap cap to other winding.

You can, but identify the common conductor for each of the two windings
