While you are procuring a multi-meter, might pick up a low wattage soldering iron, some fine guage 60/40 rosin core solder, some 24-28 ga wire,& some 3/32-1/8 in. heat shrink tubing. A few known V,W lamps might help. Automotive types as # 161,14V,.19A,1CP,2.66W;#194,14V,.27A,2CP,3.78W;#168,14V,.35A,3CP,4.9W.These are wedge base,fold down the contact wires and solder on some wire leads.When you are measuring voltage of magneto[AC?, DC?],measure with a load &without. Do you have some LED's to play with?

I have some of that stuff, but need more lights and multimeter and some of those light you listed. I have killed about a dozen led's so far

 

You might consider using two 6v lights wired in series instead of a single 12v lamp.

Can't beat the price. For long term, look at Fluke (and two orders of magnitude more cost).

If you are sure you have DC from magneto,next,would use a V reg,7812 to keep from blowing LED's. Does mag. have commutator & brushes,slip rings, or just contact from end of shaft?? I'll stick in a hent, not pretty but might help. D1 any Si cheapy @ 1A for just incase mag. is AC.

I'll need to take a class to be able to read that alien writing The magnito has screw mounts that I connected wires to for power.

 

The meter you posted is almost same as CEN-TECH by HARBOR FREIGHT,I have 2 ,they work fine,but my favorite is 40+ year old HEATHKIT,from a kit. Next ?, does the magneto have polarity markings on [or near] the binding posts? Sory Engleesh not gd, my tke clas.

I'm sure magneto is alternating current, AC, if so: convert to negative voltage to contol arelay driver[ NE555].On print diodes D1-D3 any of the 1N4000 series 2& up.or any similar diodes.C1 Should be non polorized as used in audio speaker crosover networks,value non critical. D3 prevents false shutdown. Pin1 to ground, ignore blip p4 to +12. No connection to p7. Operation:first few cranks charges C1 to 10-40 V negative,overcoming + bias on pins 2[triggrr] & p 6[threshhold],causing output, p3, to go to + 12V almost, closing relay which lights lampor LED string.When cranking stops C1 charges to + 12,p6 & 2 ,passing 8V resets 555 opening relay. Switch on magneto prevents C1 discharging thru mag. Any ? I hope its close to English.

 

Is this relay one I can buy or are these plans you made to make one? Meter should be in Monday so I'll post new thread with questions that hopefully make sense. AC would make sense as it won't light a 12volt dc bulb. Your english is fine, its my complete ignorance in the subject (this is crash course for me). Thanks again for your time.

 

What is a DC bulb ?, maybe resistor & LED ? I thought you had purchased a 12 DC relay from Radio Shack from comment by floomdoggle, "Try radioshack, look under relays 12 v ". The 8 pin integrated circuit[IC] 555,is normally used a pulse generator and many other things, here as a Schmidt trigger of sorts,also will drive several strings ol LED's. If using LED's ,relay not needed. If you can find the parts we'll help in putting it together. A small piece of perf board will help.

 

Did you have a smile on your face when you wrote, "12 volt dc bulb"? It will work fine on either AC or DC with enough umph which your mag. does not have. The 1157 dc, has 2 filaments 2.1 A & about .5 A on other. There is another dc with filaments connected to bottom contacts and not to shell.'Looking forward to your new meter.
