Hello, I was wondering if a circuit has to be connect to ground, in this case a transistor radio, what option can be used apart from a cold water pipe? Can it be connected to the foot of a table which is made of metal?

 

Transistor radio? The only reason would be for distant reception, not usually safety.
A water pipe would normally be a ground reference, not neccesarily a table, could be totally isolated from ground.
