Good video, I have seen Mooch before. I have been there and done that during my days as a "Civilian Component of Department of Defense" having completed two (then first two) deployments of the USS Eisenhower (CVN 69) AKA the Love Boat. Watched an F14 do a ramp strike, bounce across the deck. The pilot ejected safely but his RIO hit the canopy just like Goose in the movie Top Gun. Things don't always go right. My best guess here is pilot error but then too I wasn't there. Looked like he saw the waveoff and tried to pull left but too late and not enough power. The improvements the guys in the video talked about are phenomenal in the ACLS (Aircraft Carrier Landing System). Fond memories of 40 years working in NAVAIR and NAVSEA (Nuclear Navy).

First Cruise I am 3rd from left. Technical Reps.

Second Cruise 4th from left up one from bottom.

So been there and done that.

I'm amazed at how strong that airframe is. I've only spent a little time on carriers (Coral Sea and Nimitz) in a TAD capacity. but we've all seen the crash videos shown to fire-crews.
I worked for NAVSEA on the SNAP-II program.

Both night. The night recoveries were always spooky. I uses to go down to the jet shop right below the flight deck and watch recovery ops. That gets real spooky. :)

I'm at a detachment of the unit that operates that very helicopter (yes, it's flying again). Wind shift was not the problem. The engines did not fail, but were not making enough power to climb and steady hover. It went up fully fueled (3,700lbs. full on the ground). In trying to maintain stability collective was pulled and the main rotor lost speed and lift.
They can be unstable at high altitudes.

One time the plant bought a fair-sized lot of Russian Pine Resin to process. It came in tubes similar to a gallon size commercial ice cream keg but longer with each holding ~10-15kg each. Made of heavy unbleached card stock stapled together with industrial staples. It was obviously hand done and looked even worse than Frankenstein's monster. It was a total hack job with crooked seams, multiple patches, stapled repairs, and rosin leaking everywhere. I couldn't help but stare at it in disbelief and wonderment while thinking "and these idiots actually put men into space"!
