Nothing beats free. Arrow.com is now shipping overnight for free. I have no idea how long the promotion will continue but take advantage while you can!

 

I've been promoting the free overnight shipping from Arrow for a couple months now. My biggest problem is that I usually decide I need something late Thursday night or Friday, and I have to wait to get it on Monday. (they don't deliver on the weekends)

I still feel guilty when I order that 39 cent transistor and the 78 cent fuse and let them pay for the shipping. Don't know how they can do this.

 

I have not tried Arrow yet. Frankly, DigiKey was my favorite namely because I lived many years in Minnesota and felt the ruling that DigiKey had to charge sales tax on everything while Mouser (Berkshire Hathaway ) didn't seemed unfair. DigiKey offers great service and same day shipping. I was disturbed recently by DigiKey's and Mouser's offering free shipping to Canada and not the the US. I had not considered alternatives.

I will definitely consider Arrow for my next order, Thanks for the heads up.

Been there done that for several recent orders. IN FACT, the greatest part of the delay based on tracking was not China to USA (about 3 to 4 days max, including the time change) , but USA Customs to my home -- almost 1 week just clearing customs.

I still will not buy IC's from China. But for mechanical parts, like switches and such, assembled units, boxes, LCD's and so forth, I have my favorite suppliers.

When you manufacture electronic products and systems in volume, vendor qualification and supply chain management are huge issues. Free shipping gets some of the big boys to consider changing distributors, basically covering their management costs, and once you're in it is expensive for them to drop you after the promotion. People like you are just the cost of doing business to land people like them.

The free overnight got me- it's nice to be able to test components quickly and inexpensively... I've ordered twice and now it will be my volume supplier for few of the vital components and fillers to meet deadlines. Their prices are not bad either for being domestic.
