Freelance is hard. You need to know people and have a reputation first. A chicken and egg problem.
There are "head hunter" companies that match people to jobs. I use them sometime.
My son-in-law uses "fiverr" and other online companies. (not an engineer)
Just out of school? Not a chance.

Hey I am not out of school nor an expert (trying to become something close to that) I am currently work in a company. But in Iong term I want to align myself to start freelancing so I wanted your take on how much flexibility does freelancing gives? Do you get sufficient time to concentrate on your other hobbies? Does freelancing allowed you to work from any part of the world? Also what kind of free lancing engineering work do you do?

Can
I'll do freelance. But I'm very expensive.
Can you share more info on how you started? Did you work in a company initially? If so for how many years did you work and what made you to switch to freelancing? Also what kind of work do you do? If you could share more info it would be helpful for me to decide on how to go in that direction

I did a lot of freelancing in my electronics career.
You are your boss. You get to call the shots. You can take on as many jobs as you wish. However, the job is your boss. Once you take on a job you have to deliver as per your contract.

Getting started is not easy. You have to establish credibility and a name for yourself. You should have at least 5 to 10 years experience in the field. You need to be able to show work that you have done.

It is unlike having a steady job. Work will be sporadic and not having a steady income is very stressful.

Does freelancing allowed you to.............
Every job is different. Some are a world away. Some from one town away. Some I must do in their building 8:00 to 5:00. Often there is a large company that wants me for 6 months and not for a year, then 6 months again. I just finished 4 years straight but that is uncommon. It is common now days for a company to want 4 hours a day for a year.

Collect knowledge, experience, and tools, never stop.
I have a very good lab. Probably better than most big companies. I can oven solder PCBs.
Recently someone asked how many capacitors I have. Probably well over one million.
It took a lifetime to collect that much "junk".

Much of my life I have been in (or owned) a company that hires out engineers. That way someone is hiring a company not a person.
