Don't know what made me think of this, but l just imagined that an old-school doorbell, the kind where a solenoid hammers a metal bar, would have the right combination of initial impact for each pulse and sustaining ring between pulses. I don't know how fast the plungers move and rebound - might not be fast enough for rapid wheel spins, but it seems like a fun idea to me.
