Festive Lights Issue: Faulty RGB Controller (Any advice is SO welcome!)

Hi all,

Technically naive poster here, but posting on behalf of an electrician who has kindly been fixing damaged festive lighting that was battered by Storm Darragh.

I have a festive 2m reindeer bought for my children, powered by transformer & RGB control box with IR receiver. Storm Darragh caused the reindeer to fall (despite 22 tent pegs securing) + snapped some of the internal wiring. Electrician has crimped & restored power back to all parts of the unit, but we have noticed faulty RGB control box following.

In the hours since:-
  1. Solid light supplied to device but faulty control box (IR remote nor RGB control unit able to cycle between options).
  2. Random changes between options from RGB control unit.
  3. Lighting ceased earlier today.
  4. We now have no lighting to the device, despite power clearly going to the RGB unit (as shown by green power light on RGB Control)
  5. Manufacturer has confirmed they do not replace this part.

Can anyone please advise what me / electrician can do to rectify this issue, what we need to find in order to replace the RGB control box (or if this is an option at all?)

Hi,
Welcome to AAC.
I think you need to recheck all the repaired connections and any wires that have been strained. e.g. Stretched cables that look OK, but maybe the inner wire has broken but the outer looks good.
Were the lights on during the accident? If so, then maybe the controller is damaged. Open it up and take a picture of its workings.
I hope the vet fees were not too painful.
Good luck.........

Hi TwoHats, thank you for coming back to me. The device was turned off when the storm hit to answer your question. As it happens - the electrician also thought the control box was full of water - as when we drained it, this seemed to improve control performance & light.

I've had it drying out this afternoon (covered the control box from all the elements) - and just turned it on now. I get full lights across the product (so I would hope that the repaired connection / wires are OK) but my goodness me it is cycling through a mode which I can best describe as a 90s rave....perhaps the issue is now exclusively with the control box?

I can open up and share a picture of its workings in the AM - really appreciate it.
