Fairphone charger curiosity

I have a fiarphone 3 and an official fast charger for it. It has now started to have a problem where during use it shuts down - no output voltage.
The first time it happened I left it for an hour and then plugged it in again but it was still dead. I considered attempting a repair but I don't think it would be possible to open it without destroying it, so I ordered a non-fairphone replacement which has been working well.

After quite a long time I plugged in the original and discovered that it was working again. It has done this several times now. It takes more than two days to recover!.

As I said I did get a replacement charger. From my experience of repairing switch mode power supplies, now I know that it recovers after a few days I know that it would be impossible to repair.

Normally when the protection circuit triggers it takes around 10 seconds to 10 minutes to 'reset'. I am curious how this one manages to 'remember' the trip for days.

Sounds like an insufficiently sized, failed, or absent bleeder resistor. I would guess the bleeder failed open, though that is pure surmise.

The last three "failed chargers" that I checked had the failure in the cheap construction of the wire to the small USB connector. Pushing on the connection would fix the problem,
