That doesn't seem to have affected the price our local shrimping fleet is getting. In fact, the price has gone up and I know the at-dock fuel price is down. The local fleet gets smaller every year due to overhead/low profit. Especially after they required bycatch reducers and turtle excluders on their nets which let a LOT of shrimp pass through. The local fleet is probably a 1/4 of what it was in the 70s. That was the boom for big "factory-made" 60'+ fiberglass boats and pretty much the end of the homemade wooden ~40' boats.

GRESHAM, OR (KPTV) - The owner of a Gresham electronics store says he will not press charges after someone was caught on camera stealing merchandise earlier this week.
...
On Friday, Hartleb said the father of one of the suspects saw the news story and went to Outrageous Audio and returned the stolen equipment.

Hartleb said the man made his son bring it all back and apologized. Hartleb said he is just happy this story ended the way it did.

"He came down today, he brought this stuff back, and i just can't believe how good of an ending this is, you know, I feel all of us need something good right now with what's going on, so I'm not gonna press charges," Hartleb said.

Hartleb said the man told him he already sold his son's car and he will be punished.

My initial concern on reading the title was that the brat wasn't gonna get punished beyond having to say sorry, which would likely re-enforce the bad behavior. But it sounds like the dad is laying down some significant consequences and so I have no problem with the store owner deciding that that is sufficient and not involving the legal system. The one thing that I would have required and that wasn't touched on in the story is that the kid identify the his accomplices to the store owner and that he have nothing further to do with either of them.

“I still cannot believe that I have won this much! The most I’ve won from the lottery is R500,” he said.

He said he had recently been dumped, but his luck had since changed.

“My live-in girlfriend had just broken up with me, and I was not in the best of moods. By the time I checked the results on Friday night, I was by myself as she had already moved out,” he said, speaking through Ithuba.

PORTLAND, Ore. — Body camera footage shows the moments an off-duty Portland Fire & Rescue firefighter and a Gresham police officer helped a woman escape from a house fire in Fairview earlier this month.
...
In the footage, you can see firefighter Dolphin crawling through a thick cloud of toxic, heated smoke with zero visibility. If he becomes disoriented, he will only have seconds to escape. “I kept track of the wall by sliding my foot along it and then when I searched a room I hooked my foot to the doorway,” Firefighter Dolphin said.

An Arizona woman says her neighbour deliberately slashed her SUV’s tires and accidentally gave her the finger, after she found the severed digit in her bloodstained driveway following an argument the night before.

“I literally have been laughing all day because if I don’t, I think I might cry,” said Francesca Wikoff, who reported the incident to police in Maricopa County on Thursday. Authorities have since taken the finger into evidence.
“I don’t find joy in anybody hurting themselves,” she told CBS 5. “However, karma has a good way of working itself out.”

The park is named after Tyrone Snowden Woods, a 1989 graduate of Oregon City High School. He died on Sept. 12. 2012, while serving the CIA defending American lives.

Woods’ mother, Cheryl Bennett, thanked all involved who brought the park to fruition. She acknowledged that many families have lost loved ones in the line of duty and hoped that this park and memorial would be a place of honor and reverence.

For the 30-year-old, this was an extraordinary moment. One he had craved for 10 long years - ever since his entire memory had been wiped when he was hit by a car. "It was the most magical thing ever," he says of the memory-chain.

"I was sitting on this weird blue floor and I could see this silver radio. Then, I was in another place and I was holding this man's giant hand… and then there was another memory."

He recalled a Christmas tree, towering over him. "There was a woman standing, and she was young and she was smiling and she didn't have grey hair. It was my mum and I was her little boy. And it was real."
