can't we connect ethernet connector directly to M4 controllers without using ethernet fiji?

 

The M4 controller box I saw web has no Ethernet capability.....

Probably not unless the Cortex M4 has an Ethernet MAC onboard. You would know if the datasheet says you can connect the cable directly to the processor. Do you have the datasheet? Have you read it? Can you provide a link?

 

M4 does have MAC & PHY if vendor chooses to use it from ARM.

So yes, with appropriate magnetics you can connect Ethernet to M4.

Good point -- forgot about the magnetics.

 

STM32F746 DISCO has ethernet connector on board.
