has two currents (i1 and i2) both shown +ve: both should be negative (according to the definitions set out and labelled initially).

And the errors are due to the stupid "electron current convention" used in the example. They cant keep the signs straight!

 

yes: perhaps I should have said "The solution shows them +ve" . A cursory glance tells you the "big battery" current will dominate (i.e. conventional flow from +ve to -ve) .

 

Tain't gonna change guys. If it doesn't matter as you keep claiming then get over it. Otherwise good luck explaining vacuum tubes and other such devices.

 

I don't give a fig which "convention" is used: this "educational" article had an error in the solution shown in the section "branch current": it's now been corrected: many thanks.
