So for parallel to tubes night is sun setting on age of electron tubes after the last holdout (which is xray tube) has fallen by the wayside

Thanks, Aleph! I'm bound to say I find it both encouraging and, frankly, refreshing, that a '20-something' scientist is moved to sentiment --indeed poetic sensibility-- at the prospect of the 'passing' of the electron tube!

Merely being yourself elevates the quality of verbal intercourse here. It challenges me to, "up my game" so as to not look a rube, or, a "berk" or, "pillock"(in British). In legalese, your articulation is the proximate cause of locally improved literacy. No debit intended or incurred.

ps, I almost always have three additional tabs open when addressing you, one for an English dictionary, one for a British dictionary, one for a Thesaurus, and occasionally, one for a Medical dictionary.

All I meant by "it had me fooled" was that the 'subject' of Aleph's avatar so closely resembled my daughter (whom I would later discover was indeed Aleph's identity) that I was fooled into believing the image to be of her - until @KJ6EAD posted THIS

Indeed! -- There is little more discomfiting than an (apparent) 'stranger' displaying images of (or closely resembling) one's immediate family! - and especially one's child (adult or otherwise)! -- Not only does such action 'shatter' the 'fourth wall of the internet' but it fairly screams 'better take care! I know where your kid{s} are'!!! --- Then too 'stalkers' (well... 'pests') seem to have become a proverbial cross to be borne

high speed tubes (sometimes > 10,000 RPM) are liquid metal lubricated (which is Hg or room temperature liquid amalgam) but you'd have to ask HP how they prevent Hg vapor from ruining high vacuum cuz IDK

At my suggestion @Aleph(0) requested its relocation to 'Off Topic' -- Lest the copious off-topic content be perceived as 'stooging for the post count'... FWIW I feel said concern/expedient is yet valid - but then, of course, it's @Aleph(0) 's call

HP It's still alright by me since you do 99% of the work! But sometimes I think ppl reading it on here could be confused abt why it's in off topic forum? So I'm saying that might cause doubt abt content like reading news story printed on Apr 1? Just sayin'
