Ok I get that HP missed reference to rotating anode Coolidge tube:p But now I'm asking what soap has title like _As [whatever] turns_ cuz even all knowing google can't tell me but I've heard parody of it for years:confused:? Anyhow if I'm TV idiot that's idiocy I can be proud of:)!
My suggestion was a spoof on As The World Turns, a long-running TV soap opera that aired from 1956 through 2010.

I say is good just to resuscitate thread next month cuz drivers and HV are more fun than rearranging lopts!;)
What a looooong strange trip it's been!:rolleyes::oops:

HP I swear! If you drown I'll spit on your grave
Considering the likely locus of said 'grave' - Wouldn't that be a waste of saliva?:p

I'll think of it as _depraved heart suicide_
Nah! That would be tying myself up while stowing away in the cargo compartment of a UPS van!:eek::eek::D

Attn: @Aleph(0) , @Jazz2C and anyone who cares...

In a 'bid' to get this thread 'back on track' I offer the following suggestions:

1) Please, each of you - proofread the current tutorial and the Alternate Instruments Addendum - Inasmuch as ambiguity manifest in individual interpretation represents a major liability, I suggest that best results require that you do not 'compare notes' prior to posting your impressions (etc) here!:)
@Jazz2C - I sincerely understand that toiling to fund your education leaves you little time at the weekend - Should you manage to 'find' a few minutes to review said articles - great! - If not, I fully understand!:)

2) As previously suggested, I urge reinstatement of prioritization and delineation of on-topic discussion -- @Aleph(0) , I assume you recall said practice? -- @Jazz2C despite your recent perusal of this (admittedly 'rambling') thread - I feel you might appreciate a focused statement of the policy:) -- Hence:

Immediately below is an excerpt from post #45 (whereon said format was initially suggested/adopted) -- You will please pardon my rather embarrassing grammar!
BTW I've an idea --- please don't take this the wrong way! I've been just as 'guilty' as you! -- My eagerness to keep this discussion public owes to a desire to (between the two of us and anyone else wishing to 'chime in') create a resource for EHT enthusiasts beyond the often much less than satisfactory 'cook book treatment' seen on YouTube, Instructables, etc... Inasmuch as these public fora are 'crawled' by search engine's 'index bots' many interested parties will 'land' here -- Several of whom will be interested in the substantive discussion -- All of whom will be 'put-off' by chit-chat, jokes and small talk... -- Hence my suggestion: Let's format our posts such that all on-topic material is featured first -- Followed by any quasi-personal chit-chat, jokes, rejoinders, etc... 'below' a delimiter (this post will serve as an example)...

So on to the off topic content -- note the delimiter immediately below and on it's own line...
////////////////////////////////////////////////
3) Finally -- Please don't hesitate to point out errors or offer suggestions! All civil commentary (i.e. subject oriented [as opposed to ad hominem abuse]) is both welcome and greatly appreciated! --- This goes for all interested parties!

Very best regards
HP:)

PS
Please don't worry too much about the 'civil' stipulation! -- We aren't entirely without senses of humor!;):D

HP it's all good only I can't give proofreading undivided attention b4 next week but I totally promise to then:)!
HP I'll e JC so he knows too:)!

Here's end of on topic

HP I do and I also remember who abandoned it without saying why:confused::p!

Speak for yourself, HP:D!

What a looooong strange trip it's been!:rolleyes::oops:
HP you can sure say that again! I mean we've been at it for like a year now and project forum is still awaiting our first post:rolleyes:

Considering the likely locus of said 'grave' - Wouldn't that be a waste of saliva?:p
HP that's enough of that! You know it will totally ruin my life if anything happens to you:(! You're not funny at all!

Nah! That would be tying myself up while stowing away in the cargo compartment of a UPS van!:eek::eek::D
Ha ha! Thinking on all the damaged shipments I've received I say UPS truck is way rougher ride than reckless driven paddy wagon! So that part's funny but I say suicide is never funny subject for joking:mad:!

Careful, HP! Operations on transfinite values don't always turn out like you expect;)!

I'll have a good look nxt wk as well but if I'm not allowed to hash it over with anyone before suggesting changes plz don't expect much b/c first impressions do me in every time:oops:

HP I'm sry to say my MDO3104 has checked out for good this time:( Yeah! It's all my fault! I understand if you're disappointed in me!:( It happened b/c unbeknownst to me the voltage divider was dry! So when the big resistor arced over and burned off the shunt contact the Tek took 130kV! Of course the damage isn't limited to the input channel! This time it's total toast! I mean PCBs and ASSY blasted apart like it was struck by lightning which is basically what happened:( I can live without the Tek and with my self recrimination but I don't want to feel forsaken by you! Hp you posted that you lack proficiency at instruction but that's where you're wrong! I'm a lousy (but totally sincere) student!

But that's just the point - it is my aim to 'expose' and amend any ambiguity such that readers are assured of correct interpretation sans consultation/consensus! Please know that any difficulty in this regard owes to ambiguous expression on my part - not the reader's misapprehension of 'first impressions':)

Note: Inasmuch as safety is always on-topic -- so is the following!

Hp you posted that you lack proficiency at instruction but that's where you're wrong! I'm a lousy (but totally sincere) student!
First off let's look at the important points (to wit: 'mitigating factors' and, most significantly, what you did right...:))

What you did right:
I would have you understand that (from a personal safety standpoint) there is no such thing as 'good luck' where EHT at those energy levels is involved (i.e. > 100 kJ) -- Hence your survival sans grievous physical injury tells me that you got "all the critical stuff" right!:):):) -- Should that 'ring' of 'cold comfort' I ask you to reflect upon alternate outcomes! -- Nobody but nobody 'walks away' from a high energy arc-flash accident who wasn't practicing stringent personal protection technique! -- That you remain alive and 'whole' speaks very well of your competence as a researcher and integrity as a student! As does your forthrightness in sharing this with our readers!

Your single mistake:
As far as I'm concerned your sole misstep (sans a 'scrying glass') was failed adherence to 'loss mitigation technique' (i.e. use of the least valuable asset applicable to a job) -- CIP: A $50 DMM (as opposed to a ≈ $17k MDO) would have been quite sufficient for your purposes...

Mitigating factors:
Although (as is the case, IMO, with most Tektronix products) the described MDO is a quality instrument - it is not especially expensive!:)--- Hey @Jazz2C I realize that your 'major area' of study precludes even trivial expenditure upon your pursuit of electronics at this time - In my 'autonomous' role of 'informal instructor' it is both reasonable and fair that provision of 'materials' is my responsibility -- I've spoken with Aleph on this subject - She'll be in touch - I promise to have your lab 'up and running' prior to the end of next week:cool: -- In the meantime, pursuant to development of risk assessment/abatement habits, I suggest that you work up an 'incident report' (For your eyes only, if you prefer):)

I can live without the Tek and with my self recrimination but I don't want to feel forsaken by you!
A little less melodrama, please!

I'm a lousy (but totally sincere) student!
--Emphasis added--

The fact that you are yet ambulatory argues otherwise!:D

Best regards
HP

À la EtOH + LN2 → Aleph(0) ?;)
Ha ha! HP! The joke's on you cuz ppl will think you're saying I am result of YOUR drinking:p!

HP now I'm going to tell you something serious! If you like to identify as ln2 that's up to you! But I'm saying it's just mean spirited to imply dad is alcoholic by calling him etoh cuz you know he didn't drink at all before you broke up with him and he doesn't drink that much now either! HP you said family skeletons are locked up but that means you keep your end of bargain too:mad:! HP I'm not taking sides at all so plz don't put me in position of defending either of you from each other:rolleyes:!

And now for something completely different:D

HP I think it's sweet of you to be patient with JC but I don't see rewarding negligence with new _toys_:confused: I know you're afraid he'll lose interest in electronics if he faces obstacles like burned out equipment but I say he needs to learn a lesson! I know it's impossible to anticipate everything but it's just common sense to check oil level in ebay voltage divider before first use:rolleyes:! Cuz safety of life comes into it and like you always say easiest path to being SOL is by ignoring SOL procedures! HP I have already told JC my feelings about this but just so you don't accuse me of gossiping behind his back again here's tag: @Jazz2C plz be more careful:mad:!

I've spoken with Aleph on this subject - She'll be in touch
Sure thing JC:rolleyes:! Thanks to HPclaus your new equipment will be ordered tomorrow and delivered Tuesday or Wednesday. Now I say plz remember they're precision instruments not bowling pins:rolleyes:! I am also sending you a gift which is a new voltage divider but you still have to check the potting oil! You shouldn't shop ebay for items that are big hazard if they're defective! JC you're a bright guy and you know I look on you like a brother but you sure are an industrial strength dork sometimes:rolleyes:! Between HP's _adventures_ and your carelssnes I'll have grey hair by 30:(!

'Never' covers a lot of territory!;):p

Oooops! I see what you mean!:eek:

HP you said family skeletons are locked up but that means you keep your end of bargain too:mad:!
Sincerely, fair enough!:)

HP I think it's sweet of you to be patient with JC but I don't see rewarding negligence with new _toys_:confused:
Please re-read my response to JC's post -- IMO he was not negligent - quite to the contrary - his deployment of personnel protection equipment and adherence to 'EHT safety protocol' is admirable! --- moreover I hardly regard study materials as 'toys' - JC has demonstrated sincerity and application - such is worthy of encouragement!:)

I say he needs to learn a lesson!
Trust me! An arc-flash accident is not an experience one soon forgets -- even under the best conditions!

it's just common sense to check oil level in ebay voltage divider before first use:rolleyes:!
Curious 'thing' about hindsight -- It requires neither a 'crystal ball' nor even spectacles! --- The fact of JC's survival sans injury testify amply to his responsibility in this regard!:)

I am also sending you a gift which is a new voltage divider but you still have to check the potting oil!
@Jazz2C --- To be clear - the new divider is a spontaneous gift from Aleph! - Not a purchase 'on my order' -- how truly actions speak louder than words!:):):)

Between HP's _adventures_ and your carelssnes I'll have grey hair by 30:(!
Seems it's down to a choice of henna for Aleph or armored 'bubbles' for each of her friends and family!:(:D:D:D

All the best
HP:)

HP here's beginning of proof reading:)

--'Pedestrian' and 'Quasi'/'Peri'-EHT applications:
CRTs, PMTs/Image tubes, Gas discharge devices, LASERs, 'negative ion air purifiers', TC primary drivers, GM tubes, etc...
HP I think you meant like below with changes in blue:cool:

--'Pedestrian' and 'Quasi'/'Peri'-EHT applications:
(e.g. CRTs, PMTs/Image tubes, Gas discharge devices, LASERs, 'negative ion air purifiers', TC primary drivers, GM tubes, etc...)
Scope of this tutorial
HP I say to italicize _this_ cuz future articles in series won't always be same style.

HP it's too hard like this:(!
Now I have Idea! You can e me a copy of tutorial from bbcode editor so I can repost it with formatting intact! Then I can edit my copy with suggestions in blue font:)?

Done! Please check your Gmail!:)

Important! Frustration of Google usage tracking requires use of 'MS Word' (or a similar local word-processor) as a 'way station' when transferring clipboard content into or out of Gmail! -- In general: Never but never directly 'cut and paste' between web services!!!

Many thanks and best regards

Tnx, Hp! In the accompanying email you suggest that I proof the "Alternate Instrument Addendum" since A0 is doing the flyback course but I only received the text for the flyback course? Just so you know I am ready to start when I get the correct file!:)

Btw, HP I just want to say A0 is right and you are way too nice about my stupidly with the scope:oops: I sometimes wonder why you even bother with me anymore:( Now I'll show the value of your patience and generosity with actions instead of words by returning to lessons and labs immediately!:)

Ooops!--- Please check your Gmail! (Again):)

Btw, HP I just want to say A0 is right and you are way too nice about my stupidly with the scope:oops:
@Jazz2C This is important! - Please pay attention! - Your conscientious use of PPE and strict observance of 'EHT/radiology safety technique' (as inferred from your uninjured survival AND reported to me by Aleph) 'exonerates' you of any folly whatever! - Damaged equipment is a given in all --but especially 'instructional'-- 'venues'! As @Aleph(0) pointed out (in spite of herself;)) 'it's impossible to anticipate everything...'
JC - Believe it! I have no reason whatever to 'make excuses' for you! -- If I felt you had blundered, you'd be hearing about it! Loud and clear!:cool::cool:

I sometimes wonder why you even bother with me anymore:(
Unlike admissions committees (and similar manifestations of hypocrisy) I don't expect students to have mastered the subject prior to study of same!:) --- Which is in no way, shape, or form an indictment of 'real' instructors! -- But, rather, of the misplaced values reflected in the policies of many academic institutions...

Now I'll show the value of your patience and generosity with actions instead of words by returning to lessons and labs immediately!:)
While your gratitude is much appreciated - Please don't allow these 'secondary studies' to interfere with your academic work! ...K?:)

Very best regards
HP:)
