How about pulse dialed telephones? That is the primary use of DTMF.

My home still uses rotary dial pulses for dialing. So I don't pay the DTMF fee to Bell month after month and year after year.
When I call my bank then I switch to DTMF after they answer and then do my banking like everybody else.
