Does anyone know how a linear expansion valve works electrically?

A five-wire stepper system probably ties the two center connections together and undoubtedly uses an electronic current control scheme instead of the power wasting series resistors. In that case it is rather important that the driver circuit and the motor employ the same control scheme. Thus once again, like in post #14, matching the driver to the motor has a better chance of being correct the fist time. (NOTE: infallible geniuses are free to ignore my advice.)

I think I understand what you mean by this now.
I was able to find a driver specifically for this brand LEV!
As much as I'd like to learn how to create this from scratch,
I think purchasing the driver will allow me to reach my goal faster.

Good Choice!! There is a fair distance between "understanding how something works" and being able to put one together, so that ir works very well, the first time. I've been down that road a couple of times. The big pain is from those little details.
