That is "quick and dirty" for someone that knows nothing about electronics??? Really??

In continuation of post #10 which I think only 1 person saw..
Tape one of these over the speaker. It will quiet the speaker considerably, and possibly make it totally inaudible.

You can interface with it via an Arduino, from another room.

There is no need to hack into the device and modify any wiring whatsoever.

Doubt it. I've been down this road with both scientific and broadcast equipment. Without direct contact with the cone, silencing a speaker very difficult, especially in a noise-sensitive situation; and extra-especially (?) if the audio is intentionally irritating.

I have contradictory experience. It's about the cheapest go/no go test anyone could be challenged to contrive though. Before buying anything, see if tape works.
