I would love to have just a flip phone but in Canada it is not possible... you are forced to have a smart phone and told that it is your choice and that Canada has the most advanced plans available. So much for freedom and privacy. I switched to android so now google will be collecting my personal data 24/7
I never knew that and I figure if I want to know anything about myself I may have forgotten I can just call the NSA. :) They likely know more about me than I do.

I've got a FB account, but it's hard to use. It uses a lot of CPU and if I use the search box, the CPU goes up to 100% and the site becomes nonresponsive. I've tried this on my phone and and also a computer at a library. Both have the same problem so there's definitely something fishy about FB. As many have suspected all along that FB is just a front for spyware.
You got me curious so I opened Facebook. There is no increase in CPU usage or Ethernet bandwidth. I can't begin to duplicate what you are seeing and this computer is not exactly a high end gaming computer. Here is what I get.

That was while viewing a video on FB. I can't begin to see 100% CPU usage?

Just to clarify, what the 3 big providers do is have po plans at all that justlet you have unlimited talk and text. I recently switched my phone and planning to give my old iphone to my mom. Best she can do is $35/month for 500 minutes. I pay $65/month for unlimited and 1 GB data but they had a promo so I was bumped to 3 GB. Now every time i go to Russia, i cry in envy, you just buy minutes as you need and it is dirt cheap. To buy mi utes in canada is 40c/minute. So i ended up trying to pic a phone that has a decent camera...

In no universe do I want to useany of this. I end up using some of GPS apps for example (which is data mining on me again) and I would rather have an actual GPS, but how much money am I supposed to spend on the technology? I feel that smart phone is pushed on people as part of constant connectivity/beehive future. I did not vote for this...

Oh and I played that game. Originally we had an unlimited data plan which I suppose is wonderful if you use a tremendous amount of data, I deopped that plan for a 4 GB a month plan with carry over, The only time my data goes up is when I travel and even then I seldom use my carry over. Call friends on the road and use the GPS. I really like the GPS for when I take bike trips. The tablet may chew a little data but I never come close to using all my data. Started with GTE maybe 20 years ago and today that evolved through a few carriers to Verizon. I can use the My Verizin feature and see where my data is at any time. I also use the little MiFi box to connect the laptop when I travel My minuits are a joke as they are always under 100 min a month. I will say when I travel my phone always has worked which I like. The wife also has her tablet but does less than I manage to to.

Facebook isn't just the explicit text and photos posted on a given page. I suspect there is spyware that runs in the background that searches all the files in your computer or phone and exports it to another location. Facebook uses a lot of computer resources (very high CPU cycles and physical memory) and it's no surprise that Cambridge Analytica was a repository for information scraped from Facebook.
