The 1N4007 rectifier diode has fairly high voltage and current ratings (1000V PIV and 1A If), but it is not good at high frequencies as its reverse recovery time is pretty long. It's useful for things like rectifiers in small mains driven power supplies, or suppressing the back-emf on a relay.

The 1N4148 has lower ratings but much faster switching, it is too small for use in any but the tiniest power application, but more suitable as a general purpose signal or logic switching diode.
