Guys, I would like to exchange an X9C104 (100K) that has 100 steps for one that has more steps. I found the MAX5455 and MAX5389, can you get another one compatible with the X9C104, but with more steps and up / down?

 

Why?

 

For greater variation, higher resolution

 

256 steps on a smaller range will do that admirably.
Put three in series. The upper and lower ones set the range. the middle pot covers the reduced range with 256 steps.
Too expensive. Replace upper and lower pots with fixed resistors.

 

7100 I think it is no longer in production.

 

IIRC Microchip could offer some.

Go for Dallas as well.

Even Xicor had a certain variety in the past.
