Difficulty soldering connectors

I have had some difficulty soldering to connectors. These are new. The solder just does not stick to the pins. After some time rubbing with iron and adding more cored solder some tinning may occur and the wire can be soldered. The problem is that the connectors often include plastic parts which soften/melt at soldering temperatures.

Has anybody else experienced this and, I hope, found a solution?
Are the connector pins nickel plated?

Do you have a part number?

Unfortunately, the answer is usually more heat but you could try an activated flux. You are using leaded solder, right?
