Current on the water pipes

Hello. When I have a shower on a friend's house on the beach, if I have a small wound in fingers, when the wound touches the tap, it hurts a bit, this time I brought my DMM and get into the shower with it. Don't judge me, everyone has their own philias :p:p:p

Not, really, I connect the probes between the drain and the tap and in AC mode I got 2,5 volts but just 75uA. Since it hurts me a bit if contact was made between a small wound and the tap, I expected more current. I thought you star feeling electricity at 1mA.

What am I missing?

Thank you

Best regards

I think what you want to know is the RMS leakage current to earth.

Use your meter on the 10 Meg range but then put a 1k resistor across the probe leads. Now you can use that 1 K resistor to measure leakage current. For instance, 1 milliamp would look like 1 volt RMS.

Over about 15 microamps I would concerned.

Thanks for your answers. The water heater is run by gas.

I think there is a lekeage of a bad insulated wire on the house. But my question is, why with just 75 uA I feel some pain?

The cut causes an increase in stimuli called the neuroplasticity of the nerve fiber.
The human body is not hardwired with copper wire as EE have pointed out many times to doctors, Why so slow in acceptance?
Bio electrical chemistry however by peer pressure, is unable to break away from textbook evolution and who really deserves the credit.
Notice he uses the lesser known term in discovering origin "sound domain" later in 2023 the ganglion cell squeeze in such a way that induces an electrical signal. Very very complex. "Wonderfully made" repair chemistry completes the repairs and the sensitivity returns to a normal level.

Hi Agustín... Some cheap water heaters from Brasil were famous for leaking and causing jiggle showers... Have they improved ?

I've been to Brazil quite often for more than 30 years. They had a bad reputation and, just like down here in Argentina, were considered a cheap alternative.

A guy I used to work with there died using one of those; since then, I've been careful to steer clear of them.

I replumbed my house with PEX tubing, replacing the copper tubing. That meant I had to run ground wires to ground everywhere any appliance or electrical system was grounded to the pipes. PEX is a type of plastic pipe. And plastic does not conduct energy to ground. I can't say with any confidence you have a ground issue, but it's worth looking into. If you're getting micro-amps then there's a condition that exists - with time it could get worse. Lethal even.

My first thought after reading your description was the same as
When your wound touches a table, it probably hurts a bit, at least that has been my experience.
But if you're measuring any kind of NON-Static charge then it's worth further investigation into the wiring. You DID mention
I think there is a lekeage of a bad insulated wire on the house.
Pursue that.
