for some it may be a hard to swallow pill but pretty much anything that you can think of, someone else did before you. and if that thing is not marketed already, there is a reason for it. networks based around multidrop architectures RS422/485 were out for decades, had their peak and are fading out - at least in some places like industrial automation. reasons for this is that Ethernet became much cheaper, has higher bandwidth etc. at the same time wireless technologies have exploded. just see what LoRa is capable of.
the bottom line is - if what you envision is meant to be a commercial product it need to fill some need while competing with alternatives. and that is not easy using old technology, unless you find massive stockpiles of something for zero or near zero cost to you.

That's my problem. All of the really good stuff has already been taken.

<EDIT> Please realize this post is in jest as in humor as in I am not serious about all the good stuff having been taken. </EDIT> :)

Thats just not true .
Imagine your in 1999
No touch screen mobile phones, no mobile internet
No steaming movies
Now imagine the next 25 years !
If you believe all the good stuff has been taken , you have already failed.

I will just return to designing my matter transfer device. I just need more investors. :) My goal is to beam an Ex Wife into center of a brick wall.

Please tell me that you knew my post #22 was in jest. :)

In one sense that's always been the case.

When most of us look back at technologies, we see lots of things that WE could have done at that same time. The only thing that stopped us from doing so was that WE didn't think of it -- someone else did. The person that originally thought of it may or may not have had the knowledge and skills to implement it, but we didn't have the vision to think of it. Both are needed for success.

I have no doubt that, ten years from now, there will be things that we don't have today that we will all look at and say, "It's so obvious! I could have done that and made a whole new business out of it." Yep. We could have, but we didn't because it wasn't "obvious" to us until someone with the vision thought it up.

OK just for the record. My post regarding all of the good things have been taken was in jest, a spoof. I was in no way serious and am sorry if anyone took that seriously. No, I am aware that new opportunities open daily with advancing technology. When I was a kid I could only dream of what we have today.

Oh, it was pretty obvious that it was in jest. I was just point out that, in a pretty relevant way, for the majority of people it's also true, and always has been and always will be.
