Could HC-12's replace RS485 network?

I designed a system to measure the time between 2 events and display the result on 2 remote displays 300 ft. and 400 ft. away via a RS485 serial network. Digital sensors that detect the events connect to the GPIO of a R-Pi. The R-Pi USB port has a USB to RS485 transceiver module to make a 4 wire (power, tx, rx, ground) TP shielded cable daisy chain network. At 300 ft., Serial Display #1 is connected via a TTL to RS485 transceiver module and at 400ft., Serial Display #2 is connected via a TTL to RS485 transceiver module. The system runs fine at 19200 Baud 8N1. I now need to re-design the network to be able to cross a road and small stream where I can't run the cable. The remote displays can be remotely battery powered at their locations. I have 2 questions, (1) Do you think 3 HC-12's would work in this situation and (2), does a HC-12 remember its particular settings during power-up, power-down, power-up cycling?
