Laos is the point of interest now for coronaviruses closest to what has infected humans. Last 2 years is a lesson - humanity is stuck in the mentality that "if she floats like a duck, she must be a witch"The problem with that scenario is that the market is for seafood and no bats were sold there...
Most think it didn't started there, that location was a virus infection cluster started from people/animals infected elsewhere (southern locations) in the wild animal trade who also worked in those markets. The problem with that scenario is that the market is for seafood and no bats were sold there...
Serendipitously, prior to the COVID-19 outbreak, over the period May 2017–Nov 2019, we were conducting unrelated routine monthly surveys of all 17 wet market shops selling live wild animals for food and pets across Wuhan City (surveys were conducted by author X.X.). This was intended to identify the source of the tick-borne (no human-to-human transmission) Severe Fever with Thrombocytopenia Syndrome (SFTS), following an outbreak in Hubei Province in 2009–2010 in which there was an unusually high initial case fatality rate of 30%11. These shops selling live, often wild, animals included two at Baishazhou market (a large market comprising c. 400 other types of shop), seven at Huanan seafood market (c. 120 other shops), four at Dijiao outdoor pet market (c. 100 other shops), and four at Qiyimen live animal market (c. 40 other shops). Other shops sold a variety of goods, such as live and butchered livestock and poultry, dairy produce, fish, shellfish, other food- related products and domesticated pets (Fig. 1 shows the appearance of these markets upon reopening on 8th April 2020).

Yes, it's a duck witch because it's not the first time coronavirus transmission from the wild animal trade has happened in China.Laos is the point of interest now for coronaviruses closest to what has infected humans. The concern over pathogens being transferred from bats to humans is widespread; not only among public health professionals but also has been much studied by academics. The American Society for Microbiology published a report entitled Identification of a Novel Coronavirus in Bats, which stated “the recent emergence of severe acute respiratory syndrome‐associated coronavirus (SARS‐CoV) highlights the importance of virus surveillance in wild animals” (Poon et al., 2005, p. 2001). It further explains “the identification of severe acute respiratory syndrome‐associated coronavirus (SARS‐CoV) in civet cats and other wild animals in live animal markets suggests that this novel human pathogen emerged as a result of an interspecies transmission” (Poon et al., 2005, p. 2001). This report illustrates how other coronavirus‐like illnesses in animals have been previously identified as potential sources of transmission to humans. In fact, this is not a recent discovery and concerns existed already in 2007 that there was a serious danger to human life. A University of Hong Kong study at that time found that “the presence of a large reservoir of SARS‐CoV‐like viruses in horseshoe bats, together with the culture of eating exotic mammals in southern China, is a time bomb” (Cheng, Lau, Woo, & Yuen, 2007, p. 638). Indeed, this warning was unheeded and the failure to act on this insight has contributed to the most serious global pandemic in a century.
https://www.pfizer.com/news/press-r...l-covid-19-oral-antiviral-treatment-candidatePfizer's oral antiviral drug was found to reduce the risk of hospitalization or death from COVID-19 by 89%, according to interim results from a mid-to-late-stage study announced by the company on Friday.
Why it matters: Antiviral drugs can be a key pandemic-fighting tool, as not everyone will get vaccinated against the virus and it may take years to fully inoculate people in certain countries — particularly given current gaps in global vaccine supplies.
I heard about that on the morning news. Something like two pills a day, one morning and one evening for 5 days. Currently my wife and I just need to schedule the third shot. The oral approach is pretty cool, like when we went from a polio shot to the oral vaccine.
Oh please! Vaccination status seems to have little if any effect on transmissibility. And high comorbidity rates are seen across the board so HEALTHY unvaxed people in any case are in reality not at much risk of dying from the infection anyway (much less develop any sort of serious conditions). The mandates were working well in my part of Canada causing the new daily case counts to drop low. Now the counts are rising with most cases unvaccinated like before but most are kids 12 years old and less, because now they are passing the virus around at school. They might be vaccinated next week.
EDIT: In the other part of Canada new information shows that their case counts are very high because many people are unvaxed. The unvaxed people are in trouble. Sure, fully vaxed people are also dying but most are very, very old.

Many parents nationwide have indicated they will take a wait-and-see approach toward vaccinating their children, who are in an age range with the lowest risk of severe COVID. But demand for the shots is expected to be particularly strong in the tri-county metro area, where nearly 81% of adults have been at least partially vaccinated.
Dr. Monique Pritchard, a pediatrician and co-founder of the Sellwood office, said Friday’s event was “kind of like a Beyonce concert.”
“This is what we have been excited about,” Pritchard said. “I’ve been doing this for over 25 years and have never had an experience like this.”
Among those to get their shots were sisters Gwyneth, 7, and Evelyn, 10, with their mother Carolyn Shelak who said she was “ecstatic” as they were waiting in their car 15-minutes post-vaccination, to ensure no side effects developed.
Evelyn is excited to see her friends. Gwyneth is planning to take trapeze lessons.
“I feel like I can take a breath for the first time in two years,” Shelak said.
And this says it all. Why are people taking the vaccine? Because they want their life back, not because of anything else. Except not much seems to be normal.
Want to dance? Head to Vegas. And this says it all. Why are people taking the vaccine? Because they want their life back, not because of anything else. Except not much seems to be normal.
One more example - dancing is banned in BC. Yes, dancing in small venues.

I am too lazy to line up all the testing required to cross the border...Want to dance? Head to Vegas.
Not to challenge your belief system, but... locally we were 80% immunized as of June. Now we are 82% immunized (this is for ages 12 and up). People are being transported out of this area because we have no staff. Many coming in with COVID are in fact vaccinated. The news article I posted says the same as what professional medical people say. The Covid-19 vaccinations are safe and effective.
"People who have chosen not to be vaccinated remain at much greater risk of illness and death".
"Unvaccinated people are 10 times more likely to be infected" (then pass the virus to many more people).
"Unvaccinated people are 50 times more likely to be hospitalized with Covid-19".
"Unvaccinated people have a risk of death 46 times greater than someone their age who is fully vaccinated."
Unvaccinated people are clogging the hospitals and causing the mandates. Infected unvaccinated people in antivax areas are being flown to hospitals in my area where 85% of eligible people are fully vaccinated.
Hey mate - Have you got a source for that?...Many coming in with COVID are in fact vaccinated.
I think the term "infected" is poorly used. Every person whose breath can fog a mirror (I know, tight qualification) can be easily infected. Most likely those with vaccinations are less likely to come down with symptomatic infections than those who are not vaccinated. The news article I posted says the same as what professional medical people say. True, but also, most likely those with vaccinations are less likely to become sources for the virus to jump to new hosts. This because the amount of virus in their bodies remains low while the infection is being fought. Most likely those with vaccinations are less likely to come down with symptomatic infections than those who are not vaccinated.
