Control pressure drop with generator

Hi,

I was curious if it would be possible to control pressure drop with an expander/generator system.

I have a variable input pressure flow (500-1,000 psi) with a steady pressure outlet (200 psi) that I currently control with a pin needle valve.

I would like to put a expander/generator in the place of the pin and needle valve and have the pressure drop be controlled by how fast the generator allowed the expander to rotate. I assume this could be done with a variable frequency drive and by adding resistance to the generator to slow it down.

Would it also be possible to create more power from the generator when the input pressure increased?

Thanks for everyone's input.
