Certainly the switches shown by Mr Chips and by Max would do very well, no question. BUT the TS had asked for push buttons, and then showed us two very low current rated ones that would not survive for long. A portion of my business plan has always been that while the customer IS NOT always right, they ARE the ones with the money. Hence I showed a system that could actually use those buttons.

I tend to use the reverse methodology, if I think someone is making a mistake in a proposed setup, often in ignorance, I will suggest a more satisfactory arrangement rather than go ahead and be faced with a disgruntled customer when the suggested plan is less efficient and/or costs more.
If I think there is a better way, I will attempt to impart this to a potential customer as a personal responsibility.
But that is just me! :rolleyes:

@MaxHeadRoom I don't think he wants an interlock. I think he wants to hold the button as long as he wants the motor to run. Kind of like a hoist or an over head crane. Push the up the hook transits up. Let the button go and the hook stops in that position. And reverse.

Correct, but these types of configuration normally have an interlock which prevents a disaster if inadvertently both P.B. happen to be pressed at once.
Normally using relay contacts.

I suggested adequately rated push buttons much earlier and that suggestion was totally ignored. Now I have delivered a fully defined fix and no comment is given. The cube relays will work very well with the buttons in the picture.

The relay version of the circuit, as presented by Tony in post #36 is intrinsicly interlocked in that operating both buttons at the same time will not cause any problem, but will result in nothing happening. That is also what the TS suggested. The circuit with the two buttons and a DPDT relay can work, but it is a challenge to use, and the one button overheats and fails rather soon, and if it's contacts weld then the motor stays running until things burn out or break. So I do not recommend using it.
