Confusion about position control with different motortypes

Hi all

I am currently reading about position control with motors, but I am getting confused about different motor types.
With position control I mean: move a loaded motor to a certain position, stay there for a while, move to a new position...

BLDC vs PMSM
As I understood, the difference between bldc/pmsm is that a bldc is controlled with trapezoidal currents and a pmsm with sinusoidal. But how can you move a bldc to a certain position using trapezoidal currents? Won't it always lineup with one of the poles?
With pmsm you can just hold the current levels (hold the pwm duty cycles) at the position you want, right?

AC induction motors
How can you keep the rotor in a fixed position when there is no current induced in the rotor due to the fixed stator field?

There is a lot information to be found on the internet, but I have not found a clear source to answer my questions.
Hopefully somebody on this forum can help me clean some things out.

Thanks in advance!
