I want to make a power supply on vero board that takes 12 volt ac and converts it into to 5 volt dc. I want to use this power supply to power the microcontroller, 8 LED's, 16* 2 Display, 4 channels Realy board.

My list of components for power supply

  1. 1 * DC Power Jack Female Adapter PCB Mount.
  2. 1 * 2 Pin Screw Terminal Block - Optional
  3. 4 * Diodes 1N4007
  4. 1 * 1000uF 25V Electrolytic Capacitor
  5. 1 * voltage regulator IC 7805
  6. 2 * 100nF capacitors
  7. LED
  8. 470 Ohm resistor

Let me know if i forgot something in my list

Transformer not on the list

Add up the worst-case current requirements of the circuits/devices you are powering. If this is greater than about 750 mA, you will need larger diodes.

There is a way to calculate the required filter capacitor size, based on the transformer's rated output voltage and the total load current. My guess at this point is that 1000 uF is too small.

You will need a heatsink for the 7805.

Are you taking 12VAC from an existing transformer? If not, and this is a line powered project, why not use a USB charger? All should provide 1A.

With regards to reverse breakdown voltage, 1N4007 is overkill for your application.
