comparator and opamp

    what is the basic difference between a comparator and an opamp

    They are conceptually the same, but each circuit is optimized for performance in a very different application.

    The main difference is that op amps are compensated so they don't oscillate with negative feedback, and comparators are optimized for switching speed, but will oscillate if negative feedback is used.
